Fearless warriors
When I was nine years old, we learnt about a queen of an ancient British tribe.
Her name was Queen Boadicea. Over 2000 years ago, she led an uprising against the Roman Empire. The uprising destroyed many Roman towns in Britain, but it ultimately failed.
Because of this courageous leadership, she became legendary in Latin historical chronicles and Ancient British folklore. Boadicea is a Celtic word meaning Victorious Woman. I love this meaning.
A fearless warrior is a fearless warrior: man or woman.
But we need days like International Women’s Day to remind us that women are warriors and that they should be celebrated. We shouldn’t need a day dedicated to this. This is something we should all know, and we should all value.
The theme for 2023’s International Women’s Day is EmbraceEquity. Women are strong, powerful and capable of being warriors, just as much as men. A position of power needs a strong leader. Gender does not matter. If someone can fearlessly lead, it means that they are worthy of being in that position. This is how to embrace equity.
Equity isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s a must-have. It’s something that we all should value and embrace.
This is what International Women’s Day means to me.
