Nearly two years ago I wrote a story about the Remote Work OGs. I’ll link to the story at the end of this article. There has been a long line of productive remote workers since the Network Working Group first developed RFC33 (the Network Control Protocol) for ARPANET. For those playing along at home, this was 1970.

Since the first wave of The Virus hit in 2020, there have been long-running debates about remote work. it has been enough time for people to change their lives dramatically. People have had enough time to have children, raise a toddler or build a life with a dog. They have decided to spend that commute time on something they value. This makes it difficult for companies to enforce a 5-days Return To Work mandate. In this article I’ll touch on why.

This article is written from the point of view of the tech industry. It’s the only industry that I can speak knowledgeably about. But the things discussed in this article can be applied to any industry that has a focus on knowledge and the sharing and creation of ideas. Being able to collaborate is important to making this work. As the saying goes: teamwork makes the dream work.
